Lira Municipal Council is again on spot for awarding contracts to government officials and politicians.
This comes following a letter written to the Inspector General of Government – IGG by the youth councillor for Ojwina Division Jonal Okot seeking for an investigation on Lira municipal council, which is accused of awarding contract to two companies, all of which are owned by a one Walter Fred Minyang, a Councillor in the Municipal.
Okot alleges that Minyang, also the chairperson Works and Technical Services Committee is using Richden Services (U) Ltd and Badi Papi Company Ltd to secure contracts in the municipal. The the two companies are however registered under Richard Okello and Denis Acol respectively as managing directors.
Okot says the companies are being used by Minyang to supply construction pit sand and firewood for road works to the municipal.
Okot says Minyang is just using the names of two individuals registered as owners of the companies to blindfold Lira Municipal council. To justify his claims, Okot while speaking to our reporter on Tuesday said he has identified that the signature used in the documents of the two companies as of its managing directors is the same one Minyang uses on council businesses.
When reached for a comment, Minyang denied everything linking him to the two companies.
The Lira municipal town clerk Assey Abirebbe and his deputy Patrick Ogweng could not be reached for a comment during the time of filing this report.
