Santos Okot Lapolo, the Gulu District Resident Commissioner wants Radio Maria closed.
Radio Maria is a Catholic radio station based at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Laroo division, Gulu municipality.
In a letter written to Frank Tumwebaze the minister for ICT and National Guidance, dated February 13th 2018, Lapolo accuses the radio of preaching against government and its program, government agencies and other faith based organisations.
Radio Maria airs live masses from Holy Rosary church every Sunday to its wide audience in the region.
Lapolo notes that during a live preaching aired on Sunday 11th February, 2018, Rev. Fr Charles Onen uttered false allegations against the Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Northern Uganda, the Rt Rev. Bishop Johnson Gakumba , who was accused of burning Catholic Rosaries in a crusade that was going on at Kaunda grounds in Gulu town. He said this caused a wide damage on the reputation of the Bishop.
Lapolo adds that preaching has led to religious tension between Catholic and Anglican followers and as well as the Born Again church.
