ASP Joseph Ayiki, the acting Gulu District Police Commander is currently nursing gunshot wounds on his right leg at Gulu Regional referral hospital following a bullet hit at TAKS Centre, a hang out spot in Gulu town.
Ayiki reportedly took the bullet after a standoff with David Olanya, the security guard of TAKS centre this morning at 3 AM. It is however still unclear what the DPC was doing at the daytime hangout spot which was already closed without his vehicle and an escort.
Olanya, an Exposs security guard who fired the bullet has since been detained at the Gulu Central Police Staion as investigations commence according to Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa Region Police spokesperson.
David Odwar, the director of TAKS centre says he has no knowledge of what happened adding that they closed the recreational centre at 10:00pm last evening.
A pool of blood is sighted at the entrance of the hangout spot.
Ayiki has been acting as the Gulu DPC since October after Martin Okoyo went on leave.
