President Museveni on Saturday gave the Lira Catholic community UGX 400 million. He was the chief guest at the fundraising for the refurbishment of the Lira Catholic Cathedral at Akii Bua stadium.
The president handed over UGshs 90 million cash out of the UGX 400 million and pledged to have the remaining balance handed to the church at a later date. Earlier, he auctioned and bought a bull at UGX 10 million which he donated to the Lira Dioscese Bishop Joseph Franzelli.
While delivering his speech to the gathering, the president did not touch on any political issue but stressed the need for house holds to embrace wealth creation in order to fight poverty.
This follows an earlier speech by Bishop Franzelli who said the president was invited for the event as a father and asked Mr Museveni not to talk politics at the event.
The president asked the citizens to embrace commercial farming as a way to create wealth.
He also argued that it is individual effort that makes government initiatives like Operation Wealth Creation a reality and successful in homesteads.
He also said he is in the final stages of setting up a model farm in Baralege (Otuke District) like he has done in Mayuge and Kawumu (Luweero) to show an example to the wanainchi around this region.
