John Peter Ematu, the North Kioga Regional Police Commander-RPC and Joel Tubanone the Lira District Police Commander have been suspended, placed under investigation and committed to Police Standard Unit-PSU. PSU checks the professional conducts of police officers.
Recently, 8 members of parliament complained about Tubanone’s conduct after he teargassed them in a joint consultative meeting held in Adyel division, Lira municipality just a day after Asan Kasingye, the police spokesperson announced that joint consultations were okayed. Tubanone claimed that he ordered for the crowd to be dispersed because the MPs were acting against their directive not to hold joint consultations.
Consequently, the sickly Cecilia Ogwal the Dokolo District woman MP filed a complain at the Regional Police standard unit, saying DPC kicked her during the consultative meeting. She filed her concerns against the actions of the police at the PSU in office at Erute, in Lira district.
In a directive showing the latest police shake up signed by the IGP Kale Kayihura dated 8th November 2017, both Tubanone and RPC Ematu have been removed from their duties and referred to PSU pending investigations.
The letter the was confirmed by the Kasingye as authentic indicates that SP Emmanuel Mafumbo who is serving in Mityana will take over as the Lira DPC.
It also shows that SSP Peter Nkulega is on course to replace Ematu as the North Kioga RPC. The transfers are to take immediate effect.
