Anthony Okello Tango, Kyoga county MP was on Saturday was stoned by an irked mob over his support for age limit bill.
Residents of Muntu subcounty, Amolatar district turned red when they received information over the radio that the Mp Okello Tango said the people in the district overwhelmingly support the removal age limit, which they claim is contrary to their views. On reaching the consultation ground, the residents reportedly asked the Mp to put on a red ribbon which he refused. The locals who earlier speculated that the Mp is in support for the bill then confirmed what they earlier have been hearing. When the Mp stood up to speak, angry youths from the crowd started singing anti age limit slogans “Togikwatako!” denying their legislator audience. As soon speeches were started, stones started flying aimed for Mp Okello Tango who go hit severally sustaining injuries on the forehead and from the back of his head.
He was helped by police who fired live bullets and teargas in the air dispersing the angry residents.
Reports also say the locals manhandled a Dokolo fm journalist who they accused of biasedly reporting only in support for the age limit.
In their choruses, the locals were also demanding that Okello Tango to bring for them their woman MP, Doreen Amule for questioning. They fault Amule for seconding Magyezi’s controversial bill.
