Jonathan Odur, the Erute South Mp accused security officers of having sinister motives against the MPs who were on Tuesday teargassed with their electorates at Adyel division, Lira municipality where a consultative meeting over age limit bill was being held.
Speaking on Wednesday morning in a radio talkshow, Mp Odur said Joel Tubanone, the Lira District Police Commander was acting on orders from above to cause chaos and harm Mps in the consultation meeting which was calm.
The legislator who spoke on a raised tone, reiterated that he saw the DPC kick Mp Cecilia Ogwal.
“I saw the DPC kick Cecilia Ogwal, I’ll repeat this, let the DPC not lie, he kicked the well respected grandmother, a senior politician. I saw it all”– he was reacting to DPC Joel Tubanone’s assertion that he didn’t kick Mp Ogwal but the claims are coming from MPs who want to play politics.
“Let him not say we are playing politics, I saw what happened. He even drew his pistol at us, but gladly we escaped unharmed”– Odur said.
Mp Odur also condemned the actions of the DPC who he said fired teargas almost on the legs of Mp Ogwal.
“The rules are clear, teargas is supposed to be fired in the air, not at someone’s leg.”
He also repeatedly said it was illegal for the police to apply such actions on peaceful people.
“Actions of the state should be backed by laws, what police did yesterday was not within the law. This makes the Police criminals.”
“There’s no law that says MPs should not move together. Museveni said police is infiltrated by criminals. You all saw how the criminals worked yesterday” – He said.
He blamed the actions of the police which he said led to the admission of MPs Cecilia Ogwal and Silvia Akello in hospital.
