Police in Lira have arrested Brian Emor (20), accused of defilement and three other family members of the victim charged with procuring defilement.
It’s alleged that early in February, Emor disappeared with a 16 year-old pupil of Lango Quran Primary School.
An organisation that used to sponsor the girl’s education, Platform for Labour Action were the first to question the whereabouts of the victim. They then tasked the head teacher of Lango Quran Primary School who is also the uncle to the victim to look for the girl.
According to North Kioga region police spokesperson David Ongom Mudong, police acted on a tip off by concerned residents on Tuesday and stormed the home of Denis Otim who is the father of the victim at Ojungu Village, Akia Parish, Adekokwok Sub county in Lira District and found out that Otim together with his two other brothers Geoffrey Otiti and John Bua had married off the girl to Emor for a bride price of One cow, two goats and two Chicken.
Mudong adds that investigations also revealed that the same victim had earlier on been a victim of aggravated defilement and impregnated by an assailant but the case was not reported to any police station. The suspects so far have confessed to the offences and their file has been submitted to Resident State Attorney for perusal.
Emor’s case file is registered under CRB 2696/2017 while the three family members of the victim are under CRB 2716/2017.
