The police today issued security and traffic guidelines ahead of Sunday’s consecration of Lango diocese Bishop elect, Rev. Dr. Alfred Olwa.
The enthronement of Dr. Olwa will be at the Headquarters of Lango Diocese Boroboro in Lira District. Over 5000 guests both international and local have been invited and over 30,000 people are expected to be in attendance. Uganda’s Prime minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda will be the chief guest and a total of 36 Bishops from the countries in the region have so far confirmed they will be witnessing the event, according to the outgoing Lango Diocese Bishop John Charles Odur Kami.
North Kioga region police spokesperson David Ongom Mudong says the police and other security agencies in the region intend to deploy heavily in order to avert any security threats and ensure safety of all persons and the surrounding localities close to the venue. He adds that all routes leading to the event at Lango Diocese in Boroboro will be blocked, and will only be allowing people to use the main Soroti-Lira road for those going to attend the event.
“The following places shall be gazetted and well guarded for parking; Canon Lawrence parking ground, Boroboro Demonstration School and St.Katherine play ground.” He says.
“All motor vehicles, motorcycles and bicycles will be registered for safety, as a large number of people will be expected to travel from far and within, we caution transporters to observe traffic regulations to avoid overloading and speeding, drink driving. Traffic officers have been deployed to guide as usual. As there shall be a lot of excitements, people should be vigilant with trick stars that may covertly infiltrate the venue to steal and con, such elements should be reported timely to the security for response. We therefore urge all people to abide by this arrangement to avoid embarrassment during and after the event.” Mudong concluded.
