Amuru LC5 Chairman Arrested Over Aggravated Robbery

Aswa Region Police are holding at their headquarters in Gulu district Michael Lakony, the Amuru district LC5 chairman over aggravated robbery. He is accused of robbing UGX 6.2 million, 120 bags of charcoal, two vehicle tyres and a motor vehicle jerk from a Gulu based businessman identified as Geoffrey Kabii.

Kabii alleges that Lakony together with residents of Pabbo on December 6th 2016 intercepted and impounded his charcoal that he was taking to Kampala, on allegations that he was dealing the charcoal illegally. Wielding harmful weapons including spears, Kabii continues in his police statement that Lakony with his group inflicted harm on him at Pabbo suncounty in Amuru district. Kabii further claims that his confiscated charcoal was later auctioned by the LC5 chairman.

The case was earlier registered at Amuru Central police station under the CRB 032/2016 before it was forwarded to the regional police.

Lakony told journalists on Thursday that he was arrested on Wednesday after an invite to the police headquarters to record a statement.

Efforts to reach the Aswa region police spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema for a comment were futile by press time.
