Police in Lira today paraded Joseph Omoo alias Ajep before the press and the public that were gathered at Lira central police station.

According to police, Ajep is a hardcore criminal who has terrorised a number of residents in Lira. He is accused of masterminding robberies of many bodaboda motorcycles in Lira town, some of which their victims were murdered.
He was arrested late last year but however escaped from custody on 23rd June, 2017 from Lira regional referral hospital where he was receiving TB treatment. Just days after his escape, Ajep called different radio stations in Lira town accusing the police of taking bribes from him, which led to his successful escape. An allegation that police denied.
His luck ran short on Sunday just 6 days after his jubilant announcement that he would never be caught again. According to police spokesperson David Ongom Mudong, Ajep was rounded with accomplices Owiny Daniel, Atimango Emmanuela who is believed to be his girlfriend in Namatala, Mbale district.
Speaking to journalists on Monday at Lira central police station, Mudong said Ajep faces another charge of escape from lawful custody on top of the two counts her remanded over simple and aggregated robbery.

Asked whether  it is not harmful to other inmates if Ajep mixes  with them since it was earlier reported that he was admitted at Lira regional referral hospital with Multiple drug resistant Tuberculosis (TB), Mudong said they have no right proof that Ajep has the disease. He alluded that during the phone call to local radio stations, Ajep said he was faking the disease.

Meanwhile the police also on Thursday last week arrested three suspected robbers who were wanted by Lira police from Bweyogerere, Kampala. The three include Ogwal Jimmy, Rashid Obai and Okello Boniface alias Adome who has been wanted for the murder and robbery of a boda boda motorclist in Oyam district recently.
