Apaa Land Clash: Rugunda To Visit Amuru Today

Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda will today return to Amuru district, to meet Apaa residents.
On Monday, the prime minister visited Amuru but declined to reach Apaa, where the situation is still tense following last week’s attack in the area that left Eight dead according to local leaders.
Rugunda on Monday decided not to visit Apaa but proceeded straight to Adjumani after meeting religious leaders in Amuru. In the meeting, Rugunda revealed that visiting Apaa would cause more chaos since there was a report that local leaders had mobilised locals to demonstrate. Aswa region police spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema confirmed that there was a planned demonstration.
The prime minister’s decision not to stop by Apaa angered the local leaders. Gilbert Olanya, Kilak South county member of parliament earlier said Dr. Rugunda had to find facts from the ground about what is happening in Apaa, not just stop in Gulu and Amuru district headquarters.
